Italy’s digital gaming income saw a minor dip in December, reaching €315.8 million, a 2% reduction compared to the previous month. Nevertheless, it still displayed a 1.2% increase compared to the same period last year, suggesting a steady expansion in the sector.
Retail sports wagering and online sports both reflected this decrease, but other products saw an increase compared to the previous month.
The most noticeable development in the sector was the performance of casinos and slot machines, which generated €206.1 million in income in December, a 17% increase from the €176.1 million recorded in November.
In terms of market share, casinos and slot machines dominated, experiencing the largest increase in market share, while online sports wagering saw a decrease of nearly one-third compared to November. Meanwhile, Lottomatica/Goldbet maintained its position as the leader in the online casino industry, holding a 12.4% market share, while other online casinos saw no significant changes in their market share.
The decrease in online sports wagering market share led to a decrease in the overall digital gaming market share, which fell to 27.4%.
Although these adjustments have been made, the market share within the sector remains fairly consistent, with most businesses maintaining their positions. Bet365 has encountered some difficulties in recent months, but they are steadily enhancing their performance and have achieved a new peak of 13.1% market share this month.
In the Italian online and retail sports wagering market, Lottomatica/Goldbet continues to rule with a market share of 22.1%. In contrast, Betaland has dropped to the bottom with a market share of only 0.9%, pushing Multigioco to ninth place with a market share of 1%. Despite the fluctuations, the Italian online gambling industry remains lively and is expected to experience substantial growth in the years to come.
PokerStars remains the leader in the online poker tournament market with a market share of 42.87%, although it has declined by 4.7%. E-Play 24 has not changed significantly, leading to its being overtaken by Snai and Lottomatica, with E-Play 24’s market share falling to the lowest.
Lottomatica has experienced the most notable increase in market share, placing it second only to Snai with a market share of 9.14%. This demonstrates that Lottamatic/Goldbet is also rising in the poker tournament industry and leading the sports wagering market.
