Crown Perth’s fresh leader vows to guide a revival strategy

A former executive from MGM Resorts International, David Tsai, has vowed to spearhead a transformation and reorganization plan for Crown Perth after officially assuming the role of CEO of the gambling establishment.

Tsai, who boasts nearly two decades of experience in the integrated resort sector and spent over 15 years at MGM Resorts International, will guide Crown Perth’s restructuring endeavors. He will also collaborate with the newly appointed independent observer, Paul Steel, to implement the recommendations of the Perth Casino Royal Commission earlier this year.

This appointment follows the commitment of private equity firm Blackstone to acquire Australian gambling giant Crown Resorts Limited in July, promising to operate “with the highest standards of adherence, governance, and honesty.”

Crown Investigation
In February 2021, Crown was deemed unfit to operate a casino in Sydney’s Barangaroo after an investigation uncovered evidence of money laundering at its facilities.

Later that year, Crown was also deemed unsuitable to operate a casino in Victoria, with the inquiry concluding that Crown had engaged in “illegal, dishonest, unethical, and exploitative” behavior.

Crown Resorts’ chief executive, Ciarán Carruthers, stated, “David is the ideal candidate to guide Crown Perth into its next phase and assume the position of CEO during this pivotal moment in its history.

“David’s enthusiasm for spearheading genuine cultural transformation will have a significant impact, and I am eager to collaborate with him and the Crown Perth team to craft exceptional experiences for guests in Western Australia.”

Cai remarked, “Crown Perth is renowned throughout the industry for its top-tier hotels, boasting first-rate eateries, opulent accommodations, and outstanding entertainment venues.

“I am committed to fulfilling our reform and improvement program and cultural metamorphosis, ensuring that Crown attains its objective of becoming a global leader in secure and accountable gaming and entertainment.

“I am privileged to have the opportunity to lead Crown Perth’s workforce of over 6,000 individuals and share their comprehension and fervor for generating extraordinary experiences for visitors.”
