The UKs Jockey Club (BHA) has named John Ferguson to its board of directors. A revered figure in the equestrian community, Ferguson offers a wealth of knowledge, having been a triumphant trainer and, prior to that, ascending from stablehand to racing administrator, proprietor, and breeder.

Ferguson’s career pinnacles include aiding legendary trainer Sir Michael Stoute and conditioning 287 National Hunt victors. He has also served as a bloodstock representative, assisting patrons in discovering ideal horses for reproduction. His profound understanding of bloodstock prompted him to establish Natalma Bloodstock in 2021, an enterprise that invests in female horses across Europe, the United States, and Australia. Notably, Ferguson dedicated over two decades, spanning from 1994 to 2017, collaborating with the influential racing and breeding entities of Darley and Godolphin, both established by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

“I am incredibly humbled and appreciative to have been presented with this opportunity,” remarked Ferguson. “Horseracing has bestowed upon me a life surpassing my wildest aspirations. I’ve collaborated with extraordinary individuals, commencing as a stable lad and achieving my inaugural victory over hurdles at Hexham to breeding, possessing, and vending horses globally. I aspire to effectively represent all racing license holders.”

The destiny of equestrian sport rests with us, and we are dedicated to ensuring its prosperity and allure for future generations,” stated Joe Saumarez Smith, the British Horseracing Authority’s Chair, as he greeted Ferguson to their ranks. He underscored Ferguson’s vast background as both a conditioner and producer of horses, in addition to his profound comprehension of the field acquired through his tenure in leadership positions.
