The Iberian gaming firm Codere has formally debuted its Colombia-facing platform, Codere.com.co.

This comes after the declaration earlier this week by Colombian gaming authority Colijuegos that it had granted Codere its fifth internet gaming permit.

The fresh authorization, which cost almost US $7 million and is effective for five years, encompasses sports wagering and online casino amusements via mobile and various brick-and-mortar channels.

Codere will function in Colombia under its ‘Codere Apuestas’ trademark, augmenting its existing retail footprint. The Madrid-traded corporation has been managing betting shops, bingo halls and casinos in the nation for over three decades.

In 2016, Colombia became the inaugural Latin American country to legalize online gambling. Since then, Colijuegos has bestowed three licenses to domestic operators Wplay.co, Corredor Empresarial and Colbet, but it wasn’t until October that GAMING1 became the first foreign company to be granted an online casino and sports betting license.

Ahead of Codere’s introduction, Colijuegos chairman Juan B. Perez stated that the regulator anticipated to award at least two additional licenses before the years end.
