The Ontario regulator responsible for alcohol and gambling, the AGCO, has named Dr. Karin Schnarr as its incoming Chief Executive Officer and Registrar. A respected figure with a background spanning public and private sectors, Dr. Schnarr will officially take on her new position on September 18th. She transitions to the AGCO from the Lazaridis School of Business and Economics at Wilfrid Laurier University, where she held the position of Associate Professor of Strategic Management. Her professional journey encompasses considerable government experience, including a tenure as Chief of Staff to an Ontario cabinet minister, a capacity in which she offered counsel on matters of public policy, regulatory frameworks, and legislative initiatives. Dr. Schnarr has also been a prominent advocate for women in professional spheres, holding the Chair position for the Ontario Women’s Economic Empowerment Initiative. Her efforts in this domain centered on tackling the distinct obstacles encountered by women, particularly within STEM fields and entrepreneurial endeavors. In her most recent role, she contributed as a member of the Board of Directors for iGaming Ontario, where she headed the Corporate Affairs Committee.
The top brass at AGCO are delighted to have Dr. Schnall join the team,” declared a spokesperson for the large agricultural machinery company. They conveyed sincere appreciation for the departing CEO, Tom Mungham, who recently shared his decision to retire after an extensive and prosperous period.
This announcement follows a recent financial penalty imposed on AGCO by Ontario authorities. The $100,000 sanction stems from AGCO’s association with Apollo Entertainment, which fell short of the region’s ethical gaming regulations.
